{"id":229,"date":"2026-05-12T09:42:01","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T07:42:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aerelisadvisory.eu\/?p=229"},"modified":"2026-05-12T09:43:25","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T07:43:25","slug":"carbon-credits-what-they-really-are-and-why-they-matter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aerelisadvisory.eu\/fr\/2026\/05\/12\/carbon-credits-what-they-really-are-and-why-they-matter\/","title":{"rendered":"Carbon Credits: what they really are (and why they matter)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over the past two posts, I wrote about the&nbsp;<strong>electrification of industry<\/strong>, and how sectors like material handling quietly became early laboratories of that transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Electrification brings many advantages.<br>But it also produces something new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Measurable emissions.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once energy consumption becomes measurable, carbon emissions can be quantified.<br>And once emissions are quantified, they can enter a broader system of accounting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is where&nbsp;<strong>carbon credits<\/strong>&nbsp;come in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In simple terms, a carbon credit represents&nbsp;<strong>one tonne of CO\u2082 that has been avoided, reduced, or removed<\/strong>&nbsp;through a certified project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But issuing such credits is not simply a declaration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Projects must follow a rigorous process typically involving:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Definition of a certified methodology<br>\u2022 Independent validation of the project<br>\u2022 Monitoring of emission reductions over time<br>\u2022 Third-party verification<br>\u2022 Registration of credits in a formal registry<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several international standards oversee these processes, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Verra \u2013 Verified Carbon Standard (VCS)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Gold Standard<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Climate Action Reserve<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Only after this chain of validation can carbon credits be issued and traded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The system is not perfect, and debates about its effectiveness are legitimate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But one thing is clear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As industries electrify and emissions become easier to measure,&nbsp;<strong>carbon accounting is becoming a new layer of industrial management<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not only for compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But increasingly as a&nbsp;<strong>strategic parameter in how companies design operations, supply chains, and investments<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Which raises a final question for this series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If emissions can be measured and valued, how might this reshape&nbsp;<strong>future industrial business models<\/strong>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That will be the focus of the next post.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over the past two posts, I wrote about the&nbsp;electrification of industry, and how sectors like material handling quietly became early laboratories of that transition.
